Tell me a little bit about what BAU.TISTA does?
Bau.tista creates handmade polymer clay earrings for the quirky, colourful and eccentric. Earrings made with various colours, textures and intricate detail. Made for those who wish to accentuate their
individuality and excite their lobes.
What steps led to BAU.TISTA happening?
I went to a polymer clay workshop taught by the wonderful Therese Lyons, creator of Ena & Albert. I immediately took to the class, her love for polymer clay in- spired me. Over the next few months I spent my spare time creating and researching polymer clay. Endless possiblities and ideas lled my mind, I was hooked. I knew I wanted to create the most colourful and quirky pieces, all theres was left to do was practice. The dream was to create earrings that were intricate and interesting. To create a work of art that was irreplaceable and could be shown off everyday.
Why do you love working with polymer clay?
Polymer clay is the medium of endless possiblilties. You can create so many beautiful pieces with the endless possibility of colour, texture and detail.
What’s inspiring you at the moment?
I’m always inspired by the beauty of nature, but as winter seems to be keeping me inside I’ve been watching a lot of old films. By films I mean Austin Powers 1, 2, and 3 and by old I mean kinda 70’s/90’s all rolled into one. I nd myself always looking at everyones earrings and the Austin Powers lms have some real groovy statement pieces. Stay tuned for some 70’s inspired goods, but maybe I will get onto researching some real authentic pieces from the 70’s too..
Where would you like to see BAU.TISTA go in the future?
To be honest I have not thought too much about the future. I’m just really enjoying the now and seeing where it takes me. The dream when starting Bau.tista was the vision that everyone could have the most amazing earrings, made to suit who they are, to represent them in a custom made piece. All of my designs have originated from an individual person, the colour, shape and type all made to suit them. My true future goal would be to never stop creating designs inspired by individuality.
Who would you love to see wearing BAU.TISTA designs?
Everyone! I actually get super excited when I see someone wearing my designs. My excitement bubbles up inside me and all I want to do is jump around. Just knowing that someones individual creativity chose my piece to accentuate their inner self confidence and outer beauty is an incredible thing.
If BAU.TISTA was a milkshake avour what would it be?
Neapolitan; Bau.tista represents all the flavours.
Do you have a routine for creating or does it change from day to day?
I have the cutest little handmade pink journal to keep all my ideas and scribbles in. Each design starts on paper, so I can work out colour combinations and how it all comes together. I like to make my jewellery during the day and try to dedicate one day a week to create something for me, a piece that excites me and I can not wait to wear.
